ILIGAN City––The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) has ruled to make Vice Mayor Ruderic Marzo serve as the city’s acting mayor because of the detention of Mayor Celso Regencia.

DILG city director Emilio Rana told a crowd at city hall on Monday that Regencia was “temporarily incapacitated” because of hs detention, and the Department’s head office has already issued a directive.

The pronouncement was met with cheers by Marzo’s supporters, and jeers by those behind Regencia.

Supporters of Regencia, mostly in red, trooped to city hall at Buhanginan Hill on Monday, the day the suspension order issued by the Palace against the mayor lapsed.

Lawyer Ver Quimco of the group “Call for Justice” threatened to sue Rana before the ombudsman for allegedly “acting as a spokesman” of some politicians.

Disappointed, Regencia’s supporters stayed put and heard mass at the city hall grounds. It was officiated by Fr. Naser Zaragoza, a known Regencia supporter.

Regencia is presently detained at the city jail for multiple murder and multiple frustrated murder in connection with the ambush of Rep. Vicente Belmonte Jr.’s group in Dec. 11, 2014. Belmonte survived but three of his aides were killed.
