S/Sgt. Noel Perpetua of the Cugman police identified the suicide as 32-year-old Paul Oliver Flores.

Police ruled out foul play. They said Flores killed himself by tying a nylon rope around his neck and by hanging himself at the sala where he was later found. He hanged himself near his sleeping child.

The house where he killed himself belongs to Merlyn Baclayon, his mother-in-law.

Perpetua said Flores fell into a depression after his offer of reconciliation was rejected by his estranged wife.

Investigators said Flores left a suicide note. In it, he apologized to his 10-year-old child and blamed himself for their broken family.

Flores’s wife Regine, an overseas worker, has just returned from Hong Kong but opted to live with her partner in Barangay Kili-og, Libona town in Bukidnon.

Police said Regine left Flores for good some two years ago.

“Suko man pud to iyang asawa kay mintras tua siya sa abroad ang biktima [Flores] nag-ipon pud og laing babaye ug ika duha na na niya gibuhat. Pati iyang kwarta gipadala giwaldas lang,” Perpetua said.

Regine’s father Ranilo said the couple had frequently quarreled because of Flores’s indiscretions.

“Karon lang ulahi nakapauli akong anak ug giingnan dayon siya sa nga magpatigbalik sa iya apan akong anak di na gyud gusto mao tong na dismaya gyud siya’g ayo,” Ranilo said.

Flores’s mother-in-law said Regine fell out of love. ”Mao nang milakaw siya, wala na mobalik.”

Police said Flores had attempted to kill himself several times since he was rejected by Regine.

Perpetua said there was even a time when Flores tried to throw himself to a speeding vehicle while he was with his child.
