Iligan City — Police killed last Friday a suspected member of the Maute Group and other carnapping suspects after trying to hurdle a checkpoint of its Special Action Force in Tagoloan, Lanao del Norte.

Prior to the armed encounter, Tagoloan police PO3 Cais Rey Bolivar said the group carnapped a pick-up truck at C3 road, Merila, Barangay Ubaldo, this city, at about 8:30 am Friday.

Initial report conducted disclosed that a group of armed suspects, on board a white Hyundae Elanta with plate number TVQ 538, blocked a Ford Ranger, registered a certain name Elvira Adiong.

Upon reaching Sitio Fatima Abuno, the suspect fired at the personnel from SAF and hurdled the barricade until the fleeing suspects disembarked from the stolen vehicle that resulted to an armed confrontation at Sitio Macadar, Barangay Inaungan, Tagoloan town in Lanao del Norte.

Invetigation disclosed that one of the slain suspects was identified as Azam Ampatua and believed to be a member of Maute Group, he was armed with a .45 caliber pistol. Ampatua succumbed to 11 gunshot wounds to different parts of his body.

Another suspect who was armed with an M16 rifle succumbed to a single gunshot wound to the head.

The other suspect identified as Diamen Alonto legal age residence of Padian, Marawi City was intercepted at Sitio Camague Barangay Tominobo, this city with a .45 caliber pistol and one hand grenade.
