THE election fever is starting to heat up some more, with the announcement of the “pagbabalik.” For some “tradpols” and “Epals,” the fever has started even on the first day after the 2013 polls.

In the local scene, political bickering and name-calling have hugged the air waves to the detriment of true public service and has, unfortunately for the general populace, been delaying the delivery of basic services to the communities. Then, not a few elective officials and their mouthpieces have already started maligning some others whom they may have regarded as threats to their political ambitions.

If we should have our way, politics must never hinder the delivery of real and sincere public service, which by the way is the core of the political agenda that candidates want to sell to the electorate either sincerely or otherwise.

Sadly for the constituents, some political ambitions appear to be more personal than professional. It seems the ulterior motivation for campaigning for public office, or dying trying, of some of those who join the fray is simply to be able to possess and wield some kind of power over the others.

Sadly again, those political exercises are not even elections per se because of reports of rampant vote buying. Probably it is not in our lifetime that we could hear a vast majority of voters saying, “My vote is not for sale!”

Trolls and real persons have already started to post pictures on Facebook depicting their choice for the city mayor. Of course, this will become more intense as the campaign period nears.

As it is now, it seems the mayoral race will mainly be a choice between incumbent Mayor Oca Moreno, and you-know-who, unless reports that a last-termer congressman will join the fray are true. May he who has served the Kagay-anons best win!
