Balingasag, Misamis Oriental — Mayor Marietta Abogado assured that she will go agaisnt the rampant illegal quarrying activities in her town once she will be given a deputization order by the Mines and Geoscience Bureau-10.

Abogado told the provincial board members during hearing conducted by the committee of the whole of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan on Tuesday afternoon held at Balingasag Municipal Palace here that she will arrest all who involved illegal quarrying operations in her town once she will be deputized.

However, Vice Governor Jose Marie Pelaez who led the committee of the whole told the mayor that she can go against the illegal quarry operators in her town anytime she wanted to.

“Use your police powers as town mayor,” Pelaez told Abogado.

Before the start of the hearing, Pelaez read an article on the illegal quarrying in Balingasag published by this paper weeks ago.

Earlier, Governor Yevgeny Vincente Emano, in a text messages, also said she should use her police power as mayor of Balingasag.

He told the barangay chairperson also had a police power to enforce the law.

For his part, Engr. Manuel Candia of MGB 10 said he immediately brought the matter to the higher authority so that the request of Abogado asking for a deputization order will be prioritized.

The police, the members of the Sangguniang Bayan, and the barangay official of two barangays of Napaliran and Mandangoa here town should also be deputized said Pelaez.
