THE sky treated Cagayan de Oro and Misamis Oriental to a massive formation of  middle-altitude thick clouds that awed gazers but did not promise rain to an area that has been drying up because of the heat.

The atmospheric formation of “middle clouds” or altocumulus clouds resulted in an amazing sky show that made many people look upward early in the morning yesterday.

The clouds started to dissipate by 9 am and by 3 pm, the sky was clear, and showed no sign that such formation ever took place over the city and the province hours earlier.

Mario Goya, a weather specialist of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) in El Salvador, Misamis Oriental, said, “Ang ato ra gyong mata ang mabusog niini kay nindot man tan-awon, pero dili kini makahatag ug ulan.”

Goya said beautiful cloud formations such as yesterday morning’s are expected during times when no rain can be expected.

“When people start seeing altocumulus clouds, that’s a sign of fair weather, that there’s no weather disturbance like low pressure areas or storms,” he said.

Altocumulus clouds, he said, are not the kind that bring rain like  “thunder clouds nga na-a sa ubos sa atmosphere.” (nitz arancon)
