He was the 24th drug suspect killed under the anti-drug campaign of the provincial police.

Newly installed Jasaan police chief, Chief Insp. Dennis delos Santos identified the suspect as Alex Mijares, a resident of Barangay Puerto, this city.

Delos Santos said Mijares’s two companions were able to escape.

He said they conducted a joint buy-and-bust operation with personnel from the Misamis Oriental Drug Enforcement Unit at around 10:30 pm Tuesday in Barangay Jampason.

Like the others before Mijares, police said the suspect whipped out a caliber .38 revolver and shot at the police after realizing that it was an entrapment. Like the other fatalities also, Mijares allegedly missed the police officer who posed as a buyer prompting the other police to open fire at him.

Delos Santos said police rushed Mijares to the Jasaan Community Hospital but he was declared dead on arrival by a physician.

Police officers were able to seize three sachets of suspected shabu, a P500 bill, and a revolver.

In another development, Cogon police have filed drug charges against a suspected drug peddler they arrested in a buy-and-bust operation in Zone 11, Upper Carmen, this city at 3:30 pm on Tuesday.

Chief Insp. Dennis Quidara, Cogon police commander, identified the suspect as Jomer Espinosa, 31, of Zone 11, Upper Carmen.

Quidara said Espinosa yielded around .30 grams of suspected shabu with an estimated value of P3,000. The police also seized Espinosa’s cellphone and a P500 bill which served as buy-and-bust money.

Espinosa has been presented before the City Prosecutor’s Office for inquest proceedings.
