MISAMIS Oriental Gov. Yevgeny Vincente Emano yesterday said the capitol would pursue efforts to make Pilipinas Kao Inc. to pay P600 million in real property taxes.

Emano said this following the Court of Appeals’ decision that dismissed an administrative case filed by Pilipinas Kao against provincial accountant  Marilou Rivera in connection with two warrants of garnishment the capitol issued against the Jasaan-based firm when the official was still serving as provincial treasurer.

The CA ruling reversed a decision by the Office of the Ombudsman that ordered Rivera suspended for one year. The suspension order was never implemented because Rivera appealed the case.

“Hopefully, ma-collect na namo kana nga tax  from them,” Emano said.

Of the P600 million, he said the capitol would receive a share of 35 percent or some P200 million.

Forty percent would go to the Jasaan town government while 25 percent would be for the host barangay, said Emano.

In 2014, the capitol issued garnishment warrants on the bank deposits of Pilipinas Kao, insisting that the company had unpaid real property taxes that reached over half a billion pesos.

Pilipinas Kao disagreed with the capitol’s position, citing that it was under the Philippine Economic Zone Authority.
