THE jail guards and the more than 400 inmates of Misamis Oriental Provincial Jail have a lot of explaining to do after a two-day surprise inspection at the facility yielded a trove of contrabands including illegal drug paraphernalia.

Misamis Oriental Provincial Jail Warden Dominador Tagarda said they did not find any illegal drugs but the presence of illegal drug paraphernalia meant that inmates have regular access to shabu.

Tagarda, however, did not give the names of the guards he wants investigated but will still recommend to Gov. Yevgeny Vincente Emano a thorough investigation on the findings of the surprise inspection.

Tagarda said once they identify the jail guard responsible for the breach of protocol, he will personally see to it that the erring guard will be sanctioned with a “disciplinary action.”

As for the inmates who will be found guilty of smuggling drugs into the jail facility, Tagarda said he will cancel the erring inmate’s privileges including visitation and the use of the conjugal room.

The surprise inspection, Tagarda said, also yielded assorted bladed weapons, cellphones, chargers, metal spoons, playing cards, and disposable lighters.

When asked if they will subject the erring inmate to solitary confinement, Tagarda replied: “Wala lang sa ‘ta anang bartolina.
