Everything went well and after their public presentation by Misamis Oriental Gov. Yevgeny Vincente Emano during the Monday morning flag-raising activity, Percoco and the other contestants were escorted to the Misamis Oriental training center at the back of the capitol for a 10:30 am press conference.

As the candidates entered the training center, Ms. Percoco became uncomfortable and fainted, prompting the capitol medics to rush and come to her aid. They brought Percoco outside so she could breathe fresh air and so she could compose herself. In no time, she was back inside to join Gov. Emano and other contestants to face reporters.

Jeoffrey Saclot, the capitol’s tourism head, said Percoco fainted because of dysmenorrhoea.

Percoco and the 13 foreigners are just among the 80 candidates to the prestigious annual search for Miss Earth who are on organized tours to various provinces.

With Percoco here are Austria’s Melanie Gassner, Croatia’s Nera Nikolic, Malta’s Alexia Tabione, Puerto Rico’s Nellys Pimentel, Brazil’s Maria Batistel, Paraguay’s Jociani Daysi Repossi, Kenya’s Susan Kirui, Reunion Island’s Anais Payet, China’s Hu Wentian, Tonga’s Titania Tiara Monic Matekuolava, India’s Tejaswini Manogna, Liberia’s Georgia Bemah, and Vietnam’s Hoang Thi Hanh.

They arrived Sunday and gave a mini-fashion show at the Centrio Mall yesterday afternoon.

Today, they would take part in a mangrove planting activity at the Tubajon Aquamarine Park in Laguindingan, and would visit the Lasang Adventure Park in Initao town.

Saclot noted that this is the first time for Misamis Oriental to serve as host to touring Miss Earth contestants.

“This is very meaningful moment and very historic,” said Saclot, adding that the visit could help boost Misamis Oriental’s eco-tourism.

Emano, for his part, said the visit should dispel doubts about the security in Misamis Oriental and in many other places in Mindanao.
