The two were named as city hall’s “caretakers” while Mayor Oscar Moreno and Vice Mayor Raineir Joaquin Uy prepared for a trip to New York in order to attend the 17th Kagay-anon International Tapok hosted by Cagayan de Oro City-Misamis Oriental Association of New York Inc..

The gathering will be held at the Sheraton La Guardia East Hotel.

Joining Moreno and Uy are city administrator Teodoro Sabuga-a Jr., city budget officer Percy Salazar, and councilors Teodulfo Lao Jr, Enrico Salcedo, Zaldy Ocon, Suzette Magtajas-Daba, Jay Pascual, Ma. Lourdes Gaanes and Edna Dahino.

According to Sabuga-a, the event will formally open tomorrow.

He said Moreno wanted to personally thank the group for a P500-thousand donation for the construction of the Day Care Center in Sitio Singapore, Barangay Balulang.

“One million  pesos man ang kantidad alang Day Care Center sa Sitio Singapore. Nahimo na kanang korambus kay P500 thousand man usab ang gigahin niana sa city hall,” Sabuga-a said.

Sabuga-a said city hall officials would also take the opportunity to present their development plans for the city, especially on local tourism.

He said the officials also see the trip as an opportunity to strengthen the city’s business sector.

The officials are scheduled to return on the first week of August.

The city council has suspended its July 29 and Aug. 5 sessions. The councilors who are with Moreno are scheduled to return on Aug. 6.

“Walay session kay halos majority man sa city council ang lakip sa delegation ni Mayor Moreno,” said Councilor Lao.

Lao said that although they are part of Moreno’s delegation, they opted to use their own money in paying for their trip.

“Naglukat ko’g ticket dugay na. Mao nang nakabarato ko,” said Lao, adding that his tickets only cost him P40 thousand.
