Moreno called for a thorough investigation into the death of 20-year-old Darwin Dormitorio to ensure that everyone responsible for his death are brought to justice.

Dormitorio, a 4th class cadet, died due to hazing-related injuries at Fort del Pilar in Baguio Wednesday, the Baguio City police confirmed yesterday.

The plebe suffered internal hemorrhage and succumbed to cardiac arrest at the PMA station hospital where he was rushed after he threw up and complained of stomach ache.

“We are all very saddened by the tragic death of Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Cadet 4th Class Darwin Dormitorio, a promising local boy from Cagayan de Oro City, whose dreams were shattered needlessly,” Moreno said in a statement.

He added: “We mourn with the bereaved family and relatives, and we fervently implore on the Almighty to grant his soul eternal rest and peace.

“We urge the authorities to thoroughly investigate the death and to leave no stone unturned. We also demand that justice be served regardless of any circumstance. Mr. Dormitorio’s death should not pass unsolved.”

Dormitorio’s alma mater Xavier University also issued a separate statement yesterday.

“The Xavier Ateneo community mourns the death of Darwin, a young cadet of the [PMA]. Darwin was a graduate of XU Senior High School (Grade 11 Fr De Aguilon and Grade 12 Fr Biancani). Our prayers and condolences are with his family,” the school statement said.

The PMA, meanwhile, said in another statement Dormitorio was a “treasured cadet of the PMA community.”

The military academy said “investigation is still ongoing to ascertain the cause and details of [Dormitorio’s] death.”

“PMA assures the public that every cadet’s overall well-being is constantly and systematically being considered in every aspect of education and training,” said Maj. Reynan Afan, acting chief of PMA’s Public Affairs Office.
