With the start of yet another busy work week today and amid a slew of parties to mark the holidays, Cagayan de Oro City residents and visitors can look forward to a more vibrant and colorful schedule of programs by City Hall to celebrate Christmas and the New Year.

Kicking off City Hall’s holiday schedule is the ‘Light A Bodega and Plant Box’ held at the East Westbound Terminal on Sunday from 6 pm to 7 pm. Five activities were held the day after headlined by the lighting of the Christmas tree at City Hall, the Pasko de Oro parade and the ‘Symphony of Lights’ at the Gaston Mini-Park.

Other activities that launched last Dec. 2 were the Indigay Sa Parol or showcase of Christmas lanterns and a Christmas Bazaar. Last Friday, was the launching of Bangga Sa Daygon at SM Uptown that was participated in by seven schools in Cagayan de Oro. The ‘Symphony of Lights’ will last until after New Year’s Day and will resume one week until Chinese New Year’s Day.

In a message prior to the lighting, Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Oscar Moreno said while Cagayan de Oro City started the second decade of the millennium reeling from the devastation of tropical storm ‘Sendong,’ it will finish strong behind a string of awards it received for improving the quality of life of its residents.

‘We started this decade with the Sendong disaster in 2011 that wrought unspeakable damage and pain but kalooy sa Diyos nakabangon kita to build back better…I want you to know that the city is ending this decade on a high note,” Moreno told those who attended the ‘Symphony of Lights’ ceremony including City Hall officials, the City Council and city residents.

Moreno said Cagayan de Oro City consistently ranked in the top 10 of the country’s most competitive highly urbanized cities in the past six years of his administration and city residents can look forward to better years ahead as he completes his final term of office.
