Rebel combatants are living in dire conditions in the hinterland barangays while most of the rebel leaders live contently with their own families in the urban and rural communities.

This is the reason why members of the Communist Party of the Philippines-National Democratic Front-New People’s Army withdrew their support from the communist movement and surrendered to an army unit.

403rd Brigade commander Brigadier Gen. Edgardo de Leon said rebels started to withdraw their support to the rebel group following personal observation of their members that they always seek support from the civilian populace for money and food.

From the month of January to this month, army troopers recorded the surrender of 90 regular members of the CPP-NPA from the area of 403rd Brigade covering the area of Bukidnon, Misamis Oriental, and Camiguin provinces.

De Leon said that among other reasons of their withdrawal, aside of living unconditions, was the effect of the implementation of community support program of the national government like immersion program to hinterland barangay of Misamis Oriental and Bukidnon.

“Major issues na nakaharap nila ay the commanding officer and ex-o were couples or family affairs to control the funds and supply of the hukbo,” De Leon said.
