The Army report said the loose firearms consisted of one Caliber 50 Barrett, one M14 Sniper rifle, 11 M16A, two Carbines, and four Garand rifles.

In her message, Adamama encouraged her people to turn over their unlicensed firearms to the government for the sake of a lasting peace.

“If you have a firearm in your house and you find a quarrel with somebody, you would easily go home, get your firearm and shoot your (enemy).  But if you don’t have a weapon you would do your best to settle the problem peacefully,” she said.

Bangsamoro Transition Authority Member Abdullah Macapaar who was one of the invited guests, told the people that peace has been achieved between the government and the MILF, so everyone must focus on maintaining peace and order to attain progress and development in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao and in communities outside of the region that are predominantly inhabited by Muslims like Munai and the five other municipalities included in the plebiscite for the Bangsamoro Basic Law.

“If possible, let us turnover all unlicensed firearms to the government,” he urged the people.

Lt. Col. Bernardo Taqueban, commander of the 4th Mechanized Infantry Battalion that covers Munai and other northeastern municipalities of Lanao del Norte including Iligan, expressed his appreciation for the cooperation of the local government in gathering the loose firearms.
