ZAMBOANGA City— One-hundred twenty-seven families from Barangay Mariki displaced by the 21-day September 2013 siege finally returned home Monday to their permanent houses.
Barangay Mariki is one of the hardest hit barangays during the 21-day siege that started September 9, 2013 after hundreds of Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) members infiltrated this city.

Mayor Ma. Isabelle Climaco-Salazar and Eng’r. Al-Khwarizmi Indanan, National Housing Authority (NHA) district manager, led the turnover of the initial 127 houses on stilts constructed in Barangay Mariki through the Zamboanga City Roadmap to Recovery and Reconstruction (Z3R) plan.

Indanan told the Philippines News Agency that the Mariki permanent housing is one of the Z3R packages with a total of 642 beneficiaries.

Indanan said the project has a total of allocation of P137.72 million and sits in a 71,300 square meters or 7.13 hectares with 642 housing on stilts units.

He said the construction of the remaining 515 units is ongoing.

He said the project is undertaken by the Gulf-Canary Construction and Development Corporation with project duration of 300 calendar days.

He said it started August 29, 2014 and is expected to be fully completed July 18, 2015.
The turnover of the first 127 houses in stilts units was originally set to be turned over last May 30 but had to be deferred June 8 pending clarifications on the vulnerability criteria as stipulated in the Code of Policies for Z3R Beneficiary Selection and its Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) which was recently approved by the City Council. pna
