MANY areas in the western service area of the Cagayan de Oro City Water District (COWD) would suffer hours of water supply interruption starting at 8 pm tonight up to 6 am tomorrow.

In an advisory, the COWD said it has scheduled a 10-hour water interruption affecting Lumbia, Masterson Avenue, Upper Carmen, Pagatpat, Canitoan, Patag, Iponan, Bulua up to Opol town in Misamis Oriental. Consumers in some of these areas have not had their supply of water for about a month now.

Ladelle Sagrado, COWD spokesperson, said low water pressure would be experienced in the low-lying areas in barangays Carmen, Kauswagan, Bonbon, and Bayabas.

The COWD has advised all concessionaires in the areas affected to store enough water for their consumption.

Sagrado said the water interruption would be due to the Cagayan de Oro Bulk Water Inc.’s decision to install four isolation valves in order to improve the flow of water from the Bubunawan River to a water treatment plant in Barangay Pualas, Baungon in Bukidnon.

“The valves will ensure flexibility and reliability of the bulk water supply to COWD,” reads part of the advisory.

Sagrado said although the activity may be completed on or before 6 am tomorrow as scheduled, it could take hours for the water pressure to build up and for the supply to normalize. (nitz arancon)
