KIDAPAWAN City– North Cotabato Gov. Emmylou Mendoza on Monday denied reports some sectors in the Norcot guv: No reports on civilians arming vs BBL province have been arming themselves in anticipation of the passage of the draft Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL).
“There was no truth to that report that some sectors in North Cotabato are arming themselves against BBL,” Mendoza said in a statement. “If people in Mindanao and North Cotabato are arming themselves – these have been happening ever since due to the peace and order situation in the area,” she said. Reports said that some groups are now securing fi rearms in preparation for the approval of the BBL and the consequences of its implementation in some communities in North Cotabato.

Mendoza said she has not monitored any group in the province arming recently. She added these reports are part of a propaganda against the province. The military leadership in the area also dismissed such report, saying such are pure insinuations of some sectors who are against the BBL and the peace process.
Col. Noel Clement, commander of 602nd Brigade of the Philippine Army, said they have not received any report of civilians or groups securing fi rearms and preparing against the BBL.
The 602nd brigade covers the areas of North Cotabato particularly the towns where 39 villages are identifi ed as part of the core territory of the Bangsamoro and will undergo a plebiscite once the BBL is enacted in congress. Clement said his command is closely monitoring the situation on the ground and dismissed such information as unfounded and false. PNA
