However, a soldier from the 58th Infantry Battalion and a militiaman were wounded in the armed encounter with New People’s Army in a remote and forested area in Barangay Macupa, Talisayan town at around 9:55 am on Saturday.

Army Capt. Leoden Bajado of the 58th IB’s civil-military operations group identified the slain guerrilla as Minte Lindayo, a resident of Barangay Cabacungan in Claveria.

Bajado claimed that Lindayo was the commanding officer of the Sentro de Grabedad which is under Sub-Committee 1 of the NPA’s Northern Central Mindanao Regional Committee.

He said the 58th IB troops were conducting military operations in the area when they stumbled upon a makeshift camp of the NPA.

Bajado said the firefight between the communist guerrillas and government troops lasted for about 15 minutes that resulted in the death of Lindayo and the wounding of a soldier and a militiaman.

After the encounter, Bajado said, they retrieved the body of Lindayo. Along with Lindayo’s body, the soldiers also seized five high-powered firearms, subversive documents, and other personal belongings of the rebel.

Bajado said the 58IB is currently conducting a hot pursuit operation against the rebels. He added that they turned over the body of Lindayo to his family in Barangay Cabacungan.
