Iligan City — The number of dengue cases in the city are now ‘alarming.’

Thus said Douglas Garcia, sanitation inspector of the City Health here, yesterday. There are now 12 deaths as of July 7, this year with 782 cases. Last year, 2018, there were 900 plus cases for 12 months already up to December with nine deaths while this year there are almost 800 cases now and the year has not ended yet.

He also cautioned people to wear only light-colored dresses as mosquitoes love the dark colors.

There are four deadly types, Garcia said, with the latest fatality a pupil at Tambo School who did not experience fever but only some “weakness.” The parents, in their testimony, said in the early days of the “weakness” spells of their child, they just went to the “manghihilot.”

He then emphasized “hydration” and have the patient go to a hospital immediately as, in the home-based hydration process, the water will just be discharged in the body immediately through urination.

It’s different when it is hydrated intravenously, he said.

Garcia said the City Health office is on their way to meet with the 44 barangay chairs together with the city council’s chair of the committee on health as every sector, especially the barangays and the residents themselves must be concerned on this alarming situation now.
