THE number of patient admissions increased by 23 percent while outpatients increased by 61 percent in the eight capitolun hospitals in Misamis Oriental, the provincial government’s Hospital Operation and Management System (Homs) report showed.

Homs managers said several factors contributed to the increase, particularly the heightened confidence level of residents on the provincial hospital system.

“Our people are now aware that whenever they go to our provincial hospitals, they are assured that one, there are doctors and trained staff to attend to them; two, there are available drugs and medicines in our pharmacies; and third, there is a zero-billing-zero-pay policy implemented by Gov. Emano,” said Dr. Bebina Casino, provincial health officer.

Another factor is the change of attitude towards health in general brought about by the information and education campaigns conducted   by the Misamis Oriental Care System (Misorcares).

Based on periodic review, Dr. Casino reported a drastic change of attitude among frontline health workers, particularly in dealing with patients.

“They got the message of the governor when, earlier, he suspended several health workers  who got negative reports from our clients. Now, they are more careful and courteous,” Casino said.

The Homs has also established  a system wherein lack of much needed medicines and drugs are easily monitored.

“This allows us to respond immediately and deliver these items within the shortest possible time,” Casino said.

She said that the wide acceptance of the Misorcares program of Gov. Yevgeny Vincente Emano made the hospital system change its focus to the outpatient department.

“You can feel the confidence of people when they come to our OPD, because it is for sure that they can bring home their needed medication without so much trouble,” Casino said.

Since January, the provincial hospital of Gingoog had 5,148 admissions and 25 thousand outpatients so far.

The provincial hospital of Balingasag had 4,633 admissions and 16,550 outpatients; Manticao had 3,094 admissions and 24,957 outpatients; Initao had 2,946 admissions and  22,053 outpatients.

The provincial hospital of Claveria had 3,425 admissions and 19,957 outpatients; Alubijid had 2,099 admissions and 17,774 outpatients, and Magsaysay had 1,795 admissions and 16, 578 outpatients.

While the Magsaysay hospital registered the least number of admissions, it had the highest percentage of increase. (pio)
