THE City Council committee on urban and rural poor chaired by Councilor Zaldy Ocon during its recent meeting tackled the problem of settlers regarding the lot they are occupying at Zone 2, Barangay Cugman.
Rubelyn Azarcon, representative of the Cugman settlers, said they received a letter from DPWH ordering them to vacate the premises because the city government is said to construct drainage in the area.
However, Azarcon said they have received information that a private person is interested in the said lot and wants to occupy the area.
The property is located in front of Cugman Elementary School. Eight families will be affected if the order to vacate will be implemented.
Ocon set another meeting to clarify the matter, inviting representatives of the City Engineer’s Office and the DPWH. According to Ocon, the DPWH cannot just order the settlers to vacate just because a private party has his own vested interest in the said property as it will prejudice the eight households/families living in the area.
