THE Office of the Ombudsman has given a controversial former director of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) in Northern Mindanao a clearance.

Given clearance was Mandangan Darimbang who opted to retire in August, ending his three decades as director of the LTFRB office in Region 10.

The clearance was issued by Ma. Rosanna Sasuman, Public Assistance Unit chief of the Office of the Ombudsman.

The document simply means that there is no record of a pending criminal or administrative case against Darimbang.

The clearance was issued to Darimbang for purposes of his retirement, and so he can claim all his benefits from the national government.

Darimbang’s decision to retire on Aug. 31, 2016 came following  after a performance and transaction audit conducted at his office by LTFRB officials from Manila.

The former director said he has spent 39 years in government service, 29 years of which were spent in the LTFRB as regional director.

“I bow out from service through retirement with [a] clean record in all offices, including the Office of the Ombudsman who (sic) is responsible in looking into the graft and corrupt practices committed by workers in the government.

“Alhamdulillah. This cleared my name and my position,” he said.

Darimbang served as LTFRB director in northern Mindanao from 1987 during the presidency of Corazon Aquno until Aug. 31, this year. He holds the record as the longest serving chief of a regional office so far in Region 10. (lito rulona)
