WHILE our fellow Mindanaoans are undergoing a deeply distressing experience and at the same time, in dire need of immediate assistance due to series of strong tremor, Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana is bustling too much in showcasing his futility with his order to set up checkpoints in the areas affected by the series of earthquake in Mindanao.

This move only further his top priority rather than the welfare of the in-need majority. A government official who enjoys a huge chunk of the people’s taxes and who has a nerve to impose such.

This government alongside the State security forces have gone more than the conventional in discounting the lives and well-being of the Filipino people. When they (people) are confronted with various forms of calamity be it manmade or natural calamity, the people are normally ordered to adjust in any policy discharged by this state. Truly, no amount of emotion can best scale this anger.

Karapatan also assails Lorenzana for capitalizing the existing martial rule on the island.

The Department of National Defense through Lorenzana has been an avid fan of innovational tactics but too senescent in bringing out the goodness of martial law, as if there is, not even one.

Meanwhile, our group calls on the entire Filipino people with generous hearts to continue pouring their support to the displaced families of the affected areas of the series of earthquakes in Mindanao.

Let us not be fretted by this desperate step to limit or hamper our unstinting hearts to keep up in reaching out and extending aid to our fellows especially in these trying times. –Jay Apiag, Karapatan-Southern Mindanao
