Iligan City — A household could only have one vote in the city’s synchronized purok president election this coming Saturday, Jose Pantoja, city information officer said.

“Each family must decide who among them will vote,” Pantoja said.

For families who still live with their parents, he added, could also field one vote even if they live in the same house.

The person who will be fielded to vote must be a registered voter and must have lived in the barangay for at least six months.

To note, the city has 44 barangays and has 922 puroks. Earlier, it was learned that each candidate must file a Certificate of Candidacy not later than the afternoon today. The CoC has to indicate the candidate’s purok vice president, secretary, and treasurer because they will be the purok’s other officers should the candidate of a certain purok win.

Pantoja said the CoCs are available and filed at the City Mayor’s Office.

Pantoja said under Executive Order No. 6, issued by City Mayor Celso Regencia, the Election Committee of each purok will compose of one teacher from the Department of Education, who will be termed as “enabler,” and two barangay kagawads or some other persons appointed by the barangay chairman. The “enabler” will be designated by DepEd Division Superintendent Randolph Tortola.

The venue for the elections will be the gym of the barangay or any school room which can accomodate the elections.

This is a “first” in the city and maybe for the whole of Mindanao.
