CAGDIANAO, Dinagat Island––The secretary general of the Liberal Party said here on Friday that it is only a matter of time before the administration party declares Interior Secretary Manuel Roxas II as its standard bearer in the 2016 elections.

LP secretary general and Rep. Mel Sarmiento accompanied Roxas who came over to distribute patrol jeeps here. He told reporters at the Cagdianao Municipal Gym that the LP was forming a ticket for national positions that would ensure enough representation for Mindanao.

Sarmiento said the Aquino administration has always been given attention to Mindanao concerns, and President Aquino wants the next president to do the same thing.

“In fact, in the national budget for this year, Mindanao got one of the biggest chunks. That shows that the present administration cares for Mindanao,” he said.

Asked when he planned to formally announce his political plans for next year, Roxas said he was still busy doing his job as head of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).

Asked who his running mate would be, he replied: “None so far.” Roxas said the LP has a process of selecting candidates based on the administration’s “straight path” policy of governance.
