MAYOR Oscar Moreno congratulated and honored the athletes of Cagayan de Oro City after being declared as over-all champion in the recently concluded Palarong Pampook in Tangub City.

The regional sports event ran from Dec. 16 to Dec. 20.

Moreno congratulated the athletes during their courtesy call in his office late last week.

He said the athletes brought honor and prestige to the city by bagging the over-all championship.

The city’s athletes garnered 95 gold medals, 75 silver medals, and 63 bronze medals.

In second place is Misamis Oriental with 62 gold, 61 silver, and 73 bronze. Coming in third is Lanao del Norte with 40 gold, 37 silver, and 43 bronze.

In fourth and fifth place are Iligan City and Valencia City with 33 gold, 35 silver, and 35 bronze and 31 golds, 21 silver, and 17 bronze, respectively.

Moreno said the athletes will join other winning athletes in Northern Mindanao to represent the region in the Palarong Pambansa next year.
