CAGAYAN de Oro City will be one of the local government units in the country to benefit from the newly-approved Universal Health Care Law.

In a special session last Saturday, the 18th City Council headed by Vice Mayor Raineir Joaquin V. Uy adopted a resolution authorizing the participation of the city as one of the first Cohorts of the Universal Health Care Advanced Implementation Sites of the Department of Health (DOH). Legislators likewise authorized Mayor Oscar S. Moreno to enter into and sign pertinent documents for the purpose.

It may be recalled that last month,  President Rodrigo R. Duterte signed Republic Act No. 11223, entitled: An Act Instituting Universal Health Care for All Filipinos, Prescribing Reforms in the Health Care System and Appropriating funds for the purpose. The Universal Health Care (UHC) Act seeks to address health system fragmentation and reorient the system towards primary health care, primarily through network-based contracting of health care providers and reorganization of the public health system.

The newly-approved law guarantees equitable access to quality and affordable healthcare services for all. (sp)
