THE city council on Monday gave the go-ahead for a second extension of the renewal of business permits to March 31.

The extension was contained in Ordinance no. 2016-10 that was approved by the city council majority to allow businessmen to have more time to renew their business permits without being fined.

But Councilor Teodulfo Lao Jr. said the extension was approved based on the complaint of a group of businessmen, and there was no request from Mayor Oscar Moreno.

“Wala may problima ang pag-extend sa deadline kay usa man kini ka paagi sa pagdani sa mga businessman, kay duna pa may ilang panahon pagbayad sa ilang buhis hangtud sa March 31 nga wala pa penalty,” Lao said.

The problem, according to Lao, was that there was no request from the mayor to reset the deadline date.

A coalition of business groups in the city has raised questions on the city’s revenue code, the imposition of environmental, garbage, fire protection inspection fees, and the imposition of a 15-percent presumptive increase of tax on the gross sales, among others. (nitz arancon)
