This after this city’s Councilors yesterday tackled the growing issue of slow internet connection in the city after the failure of the firms to properly address the issue.

Councilor George Goking was disappointment on how telecommunication companies such as Globe, Smart and the Philippine Long distance Telephone (PLDT) provided their services, saying that they are only good at collecting, but their services does not reflect it.

Kusog ang ilang collection, apan hinay ilang connection, duha ka adlaw pa gani human sa atong due date, putlan dayon ta,” Goking said.

Goking also expressed his dismay over the 3 firms who only sent representatives to answer his questions, but failed to give him a valid reason on why this is happening.

Wala nalang sab komo-insistar nga ilang tubagon kay mga representative ra man sab gud to sila,” Goiking said.

The PLDT sent Clondale Almaden, meanwhile Globe sent Glenn Delarosa.

The councilor is looking to push for a resolution recommending mayor Oscar Moreno to suspend the business permits of the said firms if they do not improve their services.

For his part, PLDT representative Almaden said the slow internet connection is a result of too many subscribers or users using a single MBPS resulting in congestion and a sluggish internet speed.

“Mohinay gyud kay daghan man ang Users sa usa ra ka MBPS. Morag sakyanan ba nga gamay ra nga sakyanan ang gipalit, apan ang karga para pang-dump truck,” Almaden said.

For his part Teodoro Buenavista Regional Director of the National Telecommunication commission (NTC) of Northern Mindanao, admitted that the issue is not only present here in Cagayan de oro, but all over the Philippines.

He said this is due to the failures of the telecommunication companies to implement infrastructure projects such as cell sites.

Buenavista said to date the Philippines is in need of 67 thousand cell sites to address the internet connection issues. But roughly only 20 thousand cell sites were constructed.

Mao kana Mr. Chairman nga kon layo ka sa Cell site hinay gyud ang signal kay sa du-ol sa Cell site kusog,” he said.

Buenavista also blamed the government for this. He said before the telecommunication firms could even construct the cell sites they have to comply with 26 requirements beforehand.

Mao na nga bisan kaya sa mga telcos pag-construct sa cell site, apan dili sila maka dali-dali ug construct, tungod  nianang daghang requirements sa gobyerno,” he said.

Adding that these requirements is in compliance of the local government code and Republic Act, 729.

Councilor Edna Dahino for her part said that it is about time for the City Council to review the said law and see if it could be revised, so that the companies could address the issue properly.

“If we can make it 1 or two from 26 requirements why not. we will do it Mr chairman, that is why we need to re-visit the law,” Dahino said.
