A MEMBER of city hall’s historical commission over the weekend expressed no objection to a proposal to move city hall to Lumbia but warned that a law mandates that one of its buildings should be preserved.

Nanette Roa said that while the local historical commission was not opposed to the proposal, local officials should be guided by the Cultural Act of 2009 in case they decided to transfer the seat of the local government.

She said the 2009 law provides that buildings 50 years and older are to be preserved.

Roa said city hall’s Executive Building that houses the Office of the City Mayor is protected based on the Cultural Act because it is 60 years old.

The building was inaugurated on Aug. 26, 1940 when Julio Pacana was mayor. (nitz arancon)
