Cagayan de Oro has been named as one of the country’s Top 10 big cities to watch this year because of the tremendous growth of its real estate industry, according to Lamudi Philippines, a top property listing site.

In a statement over the weekend, Lamudi Philippines said growth in the country’s real estate industry, underpinned by a sound economy, is creating new opportunities for property developments in various cities.

“With sustained progress in the real estate industry, backed by an overall economy that various financial institutions predict will grow from 6 to almost 7 percent in 2017, many places in the Philippines are becoming increasingly ideal to live and/or invest in,” the property listing site said.

It added: “Whichever reason to move: a fresh start, exploring new career  and business opportunities, or a growing family, ten of these places in the country stand out, and are worth your consideration for this year”.

Cagayan de Oro City is ranked fourth in the study, while Davao City placed 10th. Only two highly urbanized cities from Mindanao have made it to the Top 10 list.

For Cagayan de Oro City, property developers are now looking at local assets like tourism as another facet to consider in expansion.

This may be most evident in Cagayan de Oro, a city well known for its natural and historical attractions, and now in the midst of several development launches and project turnovers.

Among the key commercial projects scheduled to open in 2017, the site cited SM CDO Premiere in downtown area, the company’s second mall in the city; the Seven Seas Waterpark and Resort, and CityMall in barangay Bulua.

It also mentioned the opening this year of a new community fish port in Bonbon, a seaside barangay, and notable highise, condominium-hotel type buildings such as Camella’s The Loop at Limketkai Center, Avida’s Aspire Tower, and Cebu Landmaster’s Mesa Verte Residences.

Rounding up the Top 10 cities, according to rank, are: 1) Cebu City, 2) Las Piñas City, 3) Iloilo City, 4) Cagayan de Oro City, 5) Bacolod City, 6) Lapu-Lapu City, 7) Mandaue City, 8) Dasmariñas City, 9) General Trias, and 10) Davao City. cio
