THE number of voters in Cagayan de Oro and Misamis Oriental has increased by some 70 thousand, the Commission on Elections said yesterday.

Provincial elections supervisor Carlito Ravelo said the new voters were listed by the Comelec during the registration period from July to Sept. 29, 2018.

Of the new voters, 24 thousand registered in Cagayan de Oro.

The new voters bring to some 960 thousand the combined voting populations of Cagayan de Oro and Misamis Oriental.

Ravelo however said the lists of new voters would be finalized after hearing of the Election Registration Boards from Oct. 25 to Nov. 1.

The boards’ members are local election officers who would serve as chairpersons, chiefs of the local civil registrars, and the head of the Department of Education’s local offices.

29,” Ravelo said.

The Comelec, according to Ravelo, is giving all political parties and voters five days, starting Oct. 1, to file petitions against the registration of certain voters.

Failure to question the registration of new voters by Oct. 8 would mean that interested parties have waived their right to question the registration of voters, Ravelo said.

He said that if a petition is filed, the Comelec would summon the new voter concerned so he can argue his case.

“Siempre due process man ning ato mao na nga mag-hearing gyud ang ERB gikan sa Oct. 25 hangtud sa Nov. 1,” Ravelo said.

Once finalized by the ERBs, the lists would be sent to the Comelec central office for consolidation, Ravelo said.
