Msgr. Perseus Cabunoc, also Nazareno Church parish priest, said Duterte merely toyed with his powers when he ordered the suspension of all number games under the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) on Saturday, only to lift his own order on Tuesday.

“Walay makabuot kaniya nga mga adviser,” Cabunoc said.

He said when Duterte realized that his drastic order resulted in complaints and the displacement of some 60 thousand workers, the President then had a change his mind and lifted his order in less than a week.

The ban on small-town lottery, Keno and “Peryahan ng Bayan” stays.

“Ang labas tungod sa kadaghan nga nawad-an sa trabaho iyang gibalik. Mura man kita niini og mga bata nga iya lamang nga gidula-dulaan,” Cabunoc said. “Basta kung sirado, sirado gyud dili kay duna pay pakapin nga investigation.”

He said Roman Catholic leaders were delighted when Duterte ordered the gambling operations to be stopped over the weekend, only to be disappointed when he lifted the ban on Tuesday.

Cabunoc said Church leaders see gambling as “immoral” and an addictive activity that has the potentials of destroying a family relations.
