The 722 housing units donated by the Japan Government for the Sendong survivors in the city will finally be built upon the approval of the City Council of the budget allocated for the land where the houses will be constructed.

The Shelter and Housing Development Multi-Sectoral Task Force (SHDMSTF) led by Ramon Fernandez will build the houses at the end of the month since the Sendong survivors have waited long enough to have their own houses.

Roger Bolanon, Federation of Urban Poor president, also expressed his gratitude as he joined the session saying, “Positibo kita nga mahatagan na ug pagtagad sa Konseho ang 7-Point Agenda sa urban poor so dako ang akong kalipay.”

The housing program is one of the priorities of Mayor Oscar Moreno where they will not only serve the Piso-Piso beneficiaries, Sendong survivors and informal settlers but also the employees of the City Hall who still do not own a house.

Aside from giving proper relocation, Moreno also aims to provide the beneficiaries their own land title so they will have a security of tenure.

On July 11, the city council approved the P27.5 million budget for the acquisition of land that is currently owned by the Gador family and located at Sitio Pahiron, Barangay Lumbia. (cio)
