Department of Education 10 regional journalism coordinator Angelina Buaron announced the annual search results in Monday’s 2019 Regional Schools Press Conference opening rites at Mayor Manuel Lugod gymnasium in Gingoog City.

Recognized learners for their campus journalism feats in elementary and secondary levels were Jeremiah Adrian Ares, a grade 5 pupil of Ozamiz City Central School; and Elisha Inting Estomata, a grade 11 senior high school student of Ozamiz City National High School, respectively.

School paper advisers, who were cited for their mentoring skills were English instructors Jackjun Galleto Caupayan of Ozamiz City-based La Salle University Integrated School, and Joey Marie Serino Revelo of Ozamiz City National High School.

“I was surprised by the results. It was a tough (regional) competition among the finest in every division,” said Federico Araniego, Ozamiz City Schools Division campus journalism coordinator.

Araniego said all four (winners) were really good, yet there were contenders who were also at their best, in their respective categories. Northern Mindanao has 14 divisions and each of them have their nominations for the awards.

He recalled 10-year-old Ares, then in grade 3, bagged sports writing first-place in the divisional levels and kept that spot for two more years and was also second-place regional winner in 2017.

Last year, his school’s mentally-gifted class member, was among those elected director of the Editor’s Guild of the Philippines during the National Schools Press Conference in Lingayen, Pangasinan.

“Estomata was a three-time qualifier in the National Schools Press Conference as a radio broadcaster where she was a member of a fifth-place winning radio broadcasting (Filipino) team, aside from a best news presenter awardee in NSPC Pangasinan 2019.

Fr. Max Ceballos, president of the regional association of school paper advisers in secondary level and had a hand in evaluating the nominees, said judging was tough since every document the nominees has to be scrutinized.
