Davao City Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO) earned P30 million for payments of apprehended traffic violators in less than a year.

CTTMO Chief Dionisio Abude said the earning was collected from September to December this year only after the agency intensified its campaign to implement the traffic regulations in the city.

Aside from the P30 million, CTTMO also earned a total of P50 million from the fees and revenues of the Davao City Overland Transport Terminal (DCOTT) which is previously under the Davao City Investment Promotion Center (DCIPC).

As reported by CTTMO, disregarding of traffic signs topped the highest number of violations among drivers with 13,291 apprehensions from September 2017 to September 2018.

Disregarding traffic signs is the common violations among drivers, according to Abude.

He indicated that while some consciously do not follow traffic rules, many are ignorant to traffic rules as they did not undergo seminar.

This is followed by violation of obstruction of traffic rules which the office has apprehended 13,102 drivers and 11,556 driver violators for not wearing a seatbelt.

CTTMO also apprehended total number 7,051 motorcycle drivers for not wearing safety helmets and another 6,390 drivers who violated the speed limit set by the local government of Davao.

The unit also apprehended a total number of 2,628 of drivers without a license.

In addition, from September 2017 to September 2018 data, a total of 3,811 drivers were apprehended for illegal parking.

Abude said that the number remained higher due to undisciplined drivers who do not follow the traffic rules in the city. (davaotoday.com)
