TWO low pressure areas east of Mindanao and the Visayas are seen to enter the Philippine area of responsibility and develop into tropical cyclones this week, the state weather bureau said.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the first LPA was spotted 645 kilometers east of Mindanao as of yesterday morning, and the second was located 1,019 km east of Visayas as of Monday.

Pagasa said the weather disturbances may intensify into typhoons in the next two to days.

If the two LPAs become tropical cyclones, they would be called “Marce” and “Nina,” respectively.

The Pagasa advisory came even as the low pressure area east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur brought light to moderate rains and thunderstorms to many parts of the country.

Affected were areas in Mindanao, Visayas,  Southern Luzon, the Bicol, Mimaropa and Calabarzon regions.

The stateun weather bureau said the LPA, which is embedded along the Intertropical Convergence Zone, was located 645 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur as of yesterday morning. (mindanews and pna)
