THE Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said a new low pressure area and an intertropical convergence zone would likely result in cloudy skies and continue to bring rains in some areas of Mindanao today.

Pagasa weather specialist Luz Mercado said the LPA entered Philippine territory at around 8 am yesterday. She said it was near Mati in Davao Oriental.

In a 5 pm advisory, Pagasa said an intertropical convergence zone started to affect southern Mindanao, particularly the Davao region and the Soccsksargen area that would have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms.

Pagasa said the ITCZ would also affect the rest of Mindanao that would have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers due to localized thunderstorms.

Mercado said Mindanao, including Cagayan de Oro and Misamis Oriental, would continue to have rains in the coming days.

The rains would be similar to the 1 am downpour here on Tuesday given the extent of the LPA’s cloud band, she said.

But compared to what is expected in the Davao  area, Caraga, and Soccsksargen, the rains here would be moderate, according to Mercado.

“Heavy rain na sila didto,” she said. (nitz arancon)
