In line with President Duterte’s Build, Build, Build program, Panguil Bay Bridge Project, a new monumental project in Mindanao is expected to improve travel experience and connectivity as the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) embarks on the construction of Panguil Bay Bridge.

DPWH Secretary Mark Villar and Korean Ambassador Han Dong-Man led the Panguil Bay Bridge’s (PBB) groundbreaking and capsule-laying for the construction of what is purported to be the longest bridge in the country – Panguil Bay Bridge project – that aims to connect Tangub City, Misamis Occidental and Tubod, Lanao Del Norte, held in Silanga, Tangub City.

The construction of the 3.772-kilometer PBB will connect Tangub City, Misamis Occidental and Tubod, Lanao Del Norte in Northern Mindanao implemented by DPWH-Unified Project Management Office (UPMO)- Roads Management Cluster II (Multilateral) under Korean Economic Development Cooperation Fund (KEDCF) Loan No. PHL-18.

Sec. Villar said the two-lane 3.7 kilometer extradosed-type bridge will shorten the travel time between the two provinces to seven minutes from one and a half hour via a barge from Mukas Port in Kolambugan, Lanao del Norte to Ozamiz City.

Through the P7.352 billion infrastructure development, Mindanaoans and tourists can expect faster transportation of goods and delivery of services between Regions 9,10 and 12 through the bridge project implemented.

Tangub City Mayor Philip T. Tan presented City’s proposed Boulevard Conceptual Master Plan to complement Panguil Bay Bridge Project of the government in which Tan said would usher business opportunities, services, among others for the city and the province of Misamis Occidental.

While, Korean Ambassador Han Dong-Man expressed his optimism Build, Build, Build project of Pres. Duterte will spur the economic growth of the country.

He also said transport cost will reduce once bridge is completed. It will greatly contribute to Mindanao, create more jobs and increase tourist arrivals.

Land travel time from Ozamiz/Tangub, Misamis Occidental to Tubod Lanao Del Norte will be cut to seven minutes from the current 2.0 to 2.5 hours. The project is expected to be completed by 2021.

Meanwhile, Travel time from Cagayan de Oro and Iligan to the cities of Tangub, Ozamiz, Oroquieta, Dipolog, and Dapitan in Zamboanga del Norte is also expected to improve significantly. (PIA/MISOCC)
