Partial results: BOL heading for landslide win in Lanao del Sur

MARAWI City – Partial unofficial results of the plebiscite on the Organic Law for the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao on Monday showed the “yes” vote heading for a landslide win in Lanao del Sur.

The Commission on Elections (Comelec), however, said it has yet to complete the canvassing of the returns from this city and 39 municipalities as of 9:30 pm Monday.

Comelec provincial supervisor lawyer Allan Kadon said the municipal boards of canvassers have yet to submit the results to the provincial canvassers.

Partial unofficial results at the 103rd Infantry Brigade provincial election monitoring center said Lanao del Sur delivered a landslide victory for the “yes” vote.

Tugaya, Bacolod Kalawi, Bubong, Piagapo and Kapai towns delivered a solid vote for “yes”.

The Bangsamoro Law garnered 51, 513 affirmative votes from the five towns based on the brigade’s unofficial count.

In the towns of Saguiran, Lumba-Bayabao, Ditsa-Ramain, Buadi Puso and Balindong, 73,763 voted “yes” and only 21 said “no” to the law that will grant wider autonomy to the Moro people.

The Lanao del Sur government said partial unofficial results from the municipality of Wao showed the “yes” vote ahead, 13,835 votes so far against 8,630 votes for “no”.

Wao, a town predominantly inhabited by a migrant Christian population, had rejected the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

Col. Romeo Brawner Jr., commander of the 103rd Infantry Brigade said canvassing was still going on in Marawi and the municipalities of Saguiaran, Mulondo, Maguing, Marantao, Taraka and Masiu.

Kadon said voting started late in Lanao del Sur because of the heavy rains triggered by tropical depression Amang.

In Balabagan town, Senior Supt. Madzgani Mukaram said police arrested a pistol-wielding alleged member of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front Monday morning.

Mukaram said police seized a cal. 45 pistol from the suspect.
