ILIGAN CITY — More than 5,000 school children across ten elementary schools here have received nourishment assistance from Aboitiz food subsidiary Pilmico Foods Corporation (Pilmico) through its Kutitap feeding program in the last two years.

The food unit is signed last July 3, ?a Memorandum of Agreement with the Department of Education (DepEd) and Aboitiz Group social development arm Aboitiz Foundation at the Iligan City Schools Division Office, opening year three of the program.

The new target is to reach out to 4,500 kindergarten and first and second grade students from 13 schools in the area.

These beneficiary schools include: Kiwalan ES, Luinab ES, Bagong Silang ES, Acmac ES, Dalipuga Central School, Kalubihon ES, Severo-Sara Memorial School, Tubod ES, Tomas Cabili National HS-Annex School Children, Victor G. Guevarra Memorial School, Villaverde ES, Ubaldo Laya Memorial School, and Doña Josefa Celdran Memorial School.

Pilmico launched Kutitap to address undernutrition initially among kindergarten  and Grade 1 students, consequently helping increase school participation, improve cognitive learning, and reduce drop out rates among the kids.

“This feeding program strengthens our commitment to be a partner for growth to the communities where we operate,” said Pilmico President and CEO Sabin M. Aboitiz.

He added that the project also aims to help small time bakeries in the area grow their business as they will serve as the suppliers of bread snacks.

Pilmico will distribute healthy and nutritious bread snacks to target students three times a week (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday) for 38 weeks or one school year. The partner schools, meanwhile, will monitor the children’s weight and height progress on a monthly basis and compare findings with the established nutrition stats from DepEd.

The bread snacks include cheese bread, king roll, raisin bread, choco bread, star bread, ensaymada, and pan de coco.
