AN estimated street value of P3,355,000 million worth of marijuana plants were uprooted and destroyed during an anti-illegal drugs joint police operation in the town of La Paz in Agusan del Sur.

The Police Regional Office-13 (PRO-13) Caraga Region revealed that a total of 1,000 marijuana plants weighing 61 kilograms from Purok 4 and Purok 6 of Sitio Kalampayanm Barangay Kasapa 2 in La Paz on Monday.

In a statement, Chief Supt. Gilberto DC Cruz, regional director of PRO-13 revealed that the operation was a result of the combined task force composed of police personnel from La Paz Municipal Police Station, Agusan del Sur Provincial Mobile Force Company and Agusan del Sur Provincial Intelligence Branch.

“We received the tip from concerned individuals that two marijuana plantations exist in the area and so we immediately launched the separate police operations,” said Cruz.

According to a resident from La Paz, who requested not to be named, pointed out that the area has been known to be a hot spot for marijuana for more than a decade.

“The area between the border of Loreto and La Paz here in Agusan del Sur is known to be an area with years of history linked to marijuana plantations. Authorities known about this, unfortunately they have been unable to stop and really put an end to the plantations in the area,” said the resident.

Police records indicate that Barangay Kasapa 2 in La Paz, Agusan del Sur is the same area where a P2.5 million worth of marijuana was seized on August 2018.

In October 2016, about P13.7 million worth of marijuana plants were burned and destroyed in Sitio Mactan, Barangay Kasapa 1 in the neighboring town of Loreto, Agusan del Sur.

In the entire month of June in 2016, a combined total of about 27 million worth of Marijuana were seized and destroyed in the town of Loreto and La Paz from 3-police operations.

Then on June 2, 2016, around P15,625,000 million worth of marijuana was seized in the mountain slopes of Sitio Pilang, Kasapa 1 village, Loreto town.
