Senior Insp. Dennis Flores, Opol police chief, identified the suspect as Herminito Laid, Jr. of Zone 4, Barangay Patag, Opol town.

Laid’s house was raided by agents of the Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit through a search warrant issued by the 10th Municipal Circuit Trial Court here.

Authorities alleged that they seized  from Laid nine sachets of suspected shabu and a grenade.

Flores said Laid has been in the police’s list as a supplier of illegal drugs in Opol.

Laid denied owning the seized substance and claimed that the police planted pieces of evidence against him.

He also accused the police of not following the procedures stipulated in the search warrant but he did not elaborate.

“Ang katawhan sa akong barangay nakahibalo man nga wala ko gaapil-apil anang mga butanga,” Laid said.

Edward Bagwani, provincial director of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), said the suspect would remain an official candidate even behind bars. Laid is seeking reelection in his barangay.
