Capt. Zean Paul Cubil, Macabalan police chief, identified the suspect as 49-year-old Arnolfo Magadan, an engineer and chief of the DENR-10’s Survey and Control Section.

Cubil said Magadan was arrested on Saturday afternoon after he was reported by a Macabalan resident as armed.

Responding to the information, police officers confronted the DENR official and found him with cal. 40 pistol, bearing serial number A412100031, loaded with seven bullets.

Police said Magadan also had a another magazine with 10 cal.40 bullets.

Cubil said the DENR official failed to present a gun license or permit.

Investigators said Magadan was reported to have tucked a gun while he was doing a land survey in Punta, Macabalan.

But while he was being held by the police, the DENR official complained of breathing difficulty and he was brought to the Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC) apparently because his sugar level rose.

A case illegal possession of firearm and ammunition is being prepared against the suspect.
