VICE Mayor Raineir Joaquin Uy referred to the City Council committee on police, fire, and public safety, chaired by Councilor Romeo Calizo, the letter of a concerned citizen regarding the unregulated business hours of some Internet Cafes or Pisonet Cafes in Barangay Kauswagan, particularly at St. Nicolas Street, Zone 2 for appropriate action.

It was alleged that these business establishments, which operate 24/7, have become dens for addicted online gamers (mostly adolescent males) who spend hours in front of computer screens catcalling, cursing, and bullying fellow gamers.

Supposedly intended for educational internet research, these establishments have become disadvantageous and posed major concern for many parents struggling to control the online game addiction of their adolescents who spend their school allowance and study time inside these joints, the letter read in part.

These and other concerns shall be discussed during the next meeting of the committee. (cli)
