Maj. Christian Rellevo, Baungon Bukidnon police chief, alleged that the victim, 40-year-old Rolly Reyes fought back as officers tried to serve an arrest warrant against him at around 2 am.

Reyes, who was from Purok 6, Barangay Salimbalan, Opol town in Misamis Oriental, died of  three gunshot wounds in the chest.

Police claimed they rushed Reyes to the JR Borja Memorial Hospital in Barangay Carmen but he died.

Lt. Fullgen Ragmac, head of the local Scene of the Crime Operatives (Soco), said investigators found a caliber .38 revolver, seven sachets of suspected shabu, and dried marijuana leaves from the suspect.

He said they also found two empty caliber .38 shells at the crime scene.

Rellevo said officers were serving a warrant of arrest issued by regional Judge Gil Bollozos against Reyes in connection with a murder case.

“Apan saba kaayo ang iro mao tong nakamata ang subject (Reyes) ug miuna og pamusil. Maayo na lang nakatago akong mga tawo. Mao mibalos ug naigo gyud sa lawas,” Rellevo claimed.

Rellevo said Reyes was the ninth most wanted person in Misamis Oriental. He also accused the dead man of involvement in the illegal drug trade, and of being a hitman.

Rellevo said Reyes had been hiding in Baungon for almost a year already, and the police learned about his whereabouts with the help of a concerned citizen in Baungon who provided the police with useful information.
