BUTUAN City – Authorities rescued six children from a cybersex den during a raid in Purok 6, Silad in Barangay Mahogany here on Thursday afternoon.
The raid, carried out by officers from Camp Crame with the Regional Anti-Cyber Crime Office and the Butuan City Police Office, resulted in the arrest of a woman and the rescue of the children, three of them female and another three are male.
Senior Supt. Villamor Tuliao, Camp Crame’s chief for investigation and detective management, women and children protection, identified the suspect as Joanne Lantajo who is now facing charges for violation of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act, Child Abuse Law, and the Anti-Child Pornography Act.
Senior Supt. Albert Magno, city police director, the raid was planned with the help of the Department of Social Welfare and Development in Region 13, the Regional Inter-Agency Committee on Anti-Trafficking and International Justice Mission.
The raid, he said, was a result of information from the National Crime Agency of the United Kingdom.
In 2015, a British man was caught by authorities at a UK airport where nude photos and videos of children were found in his laptop. UK authorities dug deeper and found out that the photos and videos were taken in the Philippines, prompting them to inform their Philippine counterparts.
Eunice Montaos Plaza, information officer of the DSWD in Caraga, said the children have been placed under the care of social workers.
“They are still being interviewed and debriefed by our social workers. We will be assisting in filing a case against the suspect,” said Plaza.
