LATE last year, when I heard that former vice mayor Antonio Soriano would run under Mayor Oscar Moreno, I asked his nephew Ralph Abragan about it.

“Impossible,” was his terse answer. Gold Star Daily’s Monday issue came as a surprise.
Soriano’s name was mentioned as one among being considered by Moreno.

Another is Perseverando Araña. I thought that was last year. “Did Soriano change his mind?” I asked Abragan again.

“They love to float names to show they got support from known politicians in the city.
But that’s just it, publicity.

I just talked to Araña 30 minutes ago and he denied it,” said Ralph.By chance, I met Bro. Alex Noble with his wife and daughter at Limketkai mall. He said he is meeting with Soriano.

“Can I join you?” I asked. It was 5:30 pm.

I went to Figaro Coffee Shop. The Nobles were there already but Soriano. Noble loves to talk politics.

He talked about federalism, Duterte, Marcos, Poe, Binay, etc., while I talked of local politics.

After a few minutes, Soriano arrived.

I picked up a copy of Gold Star Daily and showed it to him. He denied it. “It can’t happen,” sort of what he said.

Noble told him to run for mayor and his answer: “If somebody will bankroll my candidacy.”

I shared my thoughts, and they accepted some White Crow stickers which made me happy.

“Mindanao has to go Federal and it can only be possible if Duterte runs,” said Noble. Would Duterte? Perhaps, by July 2015, we would already know.

I was asked, “Who is better: Emano or Moreno?” For me, they’re the same. But for someone in the province, he said, Moreno is worse than Dongkoy.

From out of nowhere, the first lady with her two companions passed by us, and well, her face certainly did not reflect, you know. Did she hear it all? Outside, we saw her talking to somebody on the phone. “Basin gi-piktyuran ta nila,” I joked. After a while, they returned back inside. A few more minutes, I begged to leave first.

So Moreno has declared to seek reelection. We still have to hear from Dongkoy and Rodriguez. Despite BBL, we can’t take Rodriguez out of the race yet. Many things could happen that may change things. But like I said, if Rufus won’t, somebody will.

The Liberal Party is no longer the darling party it was during the last elections. The “Matuwid na daan” shocked us with PNoy going after so-called corrupt government officials. The results boosted his ratings until Janet Napoles.

The revelations did not spare PNoy’s allies. The way the President defends his allies destroys his image and his “Matuwid na Daan.” The LP has not been anything but the same thing like the rest.

We saw how VP Binay is being destroyed by revelations. If it was to show how corrupt Binay is, and that he would be made to answer for his “sins,” then this government is doing the right thing.

But other than that, many believe these things are meant to deter him from
running for President.

If this is a valid tactic, many of PNoy’s allies would also not qualify or deserving to run.

When Cagayanons were in search of change, we saw Moreno as the answer. I hate to repeat this: Moreno was not the change we sought. If the LP would care to do some research the way they did to Binay, his candidates here would put LP to shame.

Is it true that PNoy is running for VP under Roxas? Of course ,this is a joke, a bad joke, in fact.

Because to do so for obvious reasons would be tantamount to admitting he, the President, is also no better than the rest. For that, he would be stupid to take that uncharted route.

But Philippine politics has always been like that: weird! Like we all love to say, “Only in the Philippines! Cheers!”
