Three Davao electric cooperatives have entered into a Memorandum of Agreement with Yamog Renewable Energy Development Group, Inc, during the 48th founding anniversary celebration of Davao del Norte Electric Cooperative, Inc. (DANECO, Inc.) early last week.

The electric cooperatives include DANECO, Inc., Davao del Sur Electric Cooperative, Inc. (DASURECO, Inc.), and Davao Oriental Electric Cooperative, Inc. (DORECO, Inc.) to energize off-grid communities in their respective franchise areas.

The parties agreed and signed September 22, 2019.to provide an energy mix of solar and small hydro on power to 2,222 households in Davao del Norte, 1,525 in Davao Oriental and 904 in Davao del Sur.

The triple MOA signing was part of the activities under the project “Improving the Lives of People in Off-Grid Areas in Mindanao through the Provision of Sustainable Energy” which is implemented by Yamog Renewable Energy Development Group, Inc.

The MOA parties were chairman of the Board of Directors of DANECO, Inc.Emmanuel B. Galarse, Mr. Mario Angelo M. Sotto (General Manager of DANECO, Inc.), Mr.Gregory A. Dukil (General Manager of DORECO, Inc.), Mr. Ferdinand D. Canastra (General Manager of DASURECO, Inc.), and Mr. Porferio R. Jabla, Jr. (Managing Director of Yamog Renewable Energy Development Group, Inc.).

The event was witnessed and supported by National Electrification Administration (NEA) Administrator Edgardo R. Masongsong, Undersecretary Joy Burgos and Assistant Secretary Jose Sylton Solidum representing the office of the Cabinet Secretary, Tagum City Mayor Allan Rellon, Atty. Rhett Mislang from the Energy Regulatory Commission, and Mr. Pedrito Baculio, National Grid Corporation consultant, among others.

The total EU funding support for the establishment of solar home systems and small

hydropower systems worth  up to P70,525,000 in Davao del Norte-Davao de Oro, P44,066,000 in Davao Oriental, and P30,680,000 in Davao del Sur.

The partnership of Yamog with the three electric cooperatives is pursuant to the goals and objectives of the bilateral agreement “Access to Sustainable Energy Programme (ASEP)” between the European Union and the Philippine government.

These collaborative actions are aimed at accelerating and optimizing the government’s thrust to attain 100% electrification by the year 2022.(PR)
